Donald Trump’s campaign declined to comment Thursday on whether North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, whom the former president once described as “Martin Luther King on steroids,” should drop out of the battleground state’s race for governor.

The Tar Heel State, where the GOP gubernatorial candidate is steeped in controversy, is a critical battleground in the presidential race.

Robinson, a Donald Trump endorsed right-wing candidate, was reported by CNN's Andrew Kaczynski and Em Steck to have called himself a, "black NAZI!," supported the reinstatement of slavery and said that he preferred the leadership of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler over then President Barack Obama in 2012,
