Republicans have officially won a full trifecta of power in Washington, D.C., following GOP victories in several key U.S. House contests.

Republicans have won enough seats to control the U.S. House, completing the party’s sweep into power and securing their hold on U.S. government alongside President-elect Donald Trump.

In yet another blow to Democrats, Donald Trump will begin his presidency with a trifecta of Republican control in Washington.

Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will lead Senate Republicans. Senate Republicans voted, anonymously, to elect Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) the next Senate Majority Leader, after Republicans flipped the Senate in last week’s election.
